While the influence of the AIPC in US policies towards Israel and the
Middle East is clear, and specifically so in the case of the war on
Iraq via the link between AIPC and the Bush administration through the
likes of Richard Pearl and Paul Wolfowitz et al, one can not but
observe the absence of the opposite, i.e., an influential Arab lobby!
It would be foolish and perhaps stereotypically anti-Semitic to argue
that Jews who support AIPC (and not all Jews do) are rich and hence
their influence, because we are aware that Arabs are not short of money
and political leverage if they wish to use it. I am convinced that
those politicians take money, would take Arab money as well - except in
rare cases and even then only if they are able to generate political
support by not doing so. The difference I think is in the level of
sophistication, understanding of the American political system and
above all a lack of solidarity among the Arabs, even on the Palestinian
cause. Greed, selfishness and concomitant corruption play a big role
too. It has always baffled me how it is that Arabs have failed to gain
support in the US for the Palestinians in spite of the horrendous
torment, suffering and injustice they have undergone all these years!
Think how quickly they can influence policy by threatening to stop
supplying oil to the West and the US!
