Jacoby came to Chico a year or so ago.  I thought some parts of his book, 
Dogmatic Wisdom,
were brilliant and some rather troubling -- in a negative sense.  We were 
having a nice
chat at the reception after the talk, emphasizing the positive aspects of his 
book.  He
became cold as ice once I mentioned his reservations.

I really don't understand the whole Telos phenomenon.  They had a conference in 
Chico may
be a decade ago.  Again, a couple of the sessions were quite interesting.  Most 
were
abominable.
