FTA Inflames Ecuador

Quito, Mar 17 (Prensa Latina) The likely signing of the Free Trade
Agreement (FTA) with the US, whips up Friday growing popular
rejection in Ecuador and adds fuel to the political crisis gripping
the country.

Nationwide anti-FTA rallies, protests and roadblocks by the
indigenous movement racked President Alfredo Palacio´s administration
with the abdication of the Government Minister Alfredo Castillo.

Thursday, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador
repeated it remains firm in FTA rejection and demand for expulsion of
US Oxy oil.

The movement will continue staging protest marches in Quito and
across the nation to pressure the Executive.

Among other complaints, natives request to call for a referendum over
FTA.
