Re: [Marxism] US Launches Airstrikes on Baghdad

From the article <http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4814094.stm>:
> They describe it as the biggest airborne operation in the country since the
> US invasion in 2003, involving more than 50 aircraft and 1,500 troops.

What the BBC doesn't say is that over half of those troops were Iraqis. So
what do we really have here?

The US moved a battalion of Iraqi troops, with Iraqi police support, into
an area, supported by a US Army battalion. The troops moved via chopper to
gain some element of surprise and to avoid having to brave the IED-ridden
roads.

To me, this is just hype to support Bush's recent propaganda offensive of
portraying the US as "on the move" in calming down the recent upsurge of
violence in Iraq -- and undoubtedly setting the spin for the 3rd anniversary
of the invasion.

In solidarity.

Fast fact: The US minimum wage today is lower, in inflation-adjusted dollars,
than in 1979.
