[Marxism] LBJ, George Meany, Andrew Biemiller, Larry O'Brien

An intriguing diary entry for LBJ at the White House on Sept 10, 1965.

11:40am - 12:40pm OFF RECORD: George Meany, and Andrew "Andy" Biemiller
11:45am Larry O'Brien joined Mean and Biemiller

It appears to me that this is a fairly long meeting.

Thirty years before this, Andrew Biemiller was one of the leaders of
The Militants of the Socialist Party who James P. Cannon claimed had
all the senility of the European Social Democrats at the age of
thirty. He later was the originator of the 1948 Democratic Party
civil rights plank that forced the Dixiecrats to bolt the party.

George Meany, of course, was the pro-Vietnam war head of the AFL-CIO.
Biemiller, by this time, was a former congressman and Meany's right-
hand man in relations with congress, and Larry O'Brien was probably
the most important organizational figure in the Democratic Party for
many years. It was O'Brien's office that Nixon's men attempted to bug
in the Watergate caper.
