[Marxism] Facts are important.
Thanks for your quick reply, fred.
When you replied, you also raised a number of other issues. That is good-it
means they can be talked about. I would like to discuss the point below
which you made...
(Talking about the militant.)
and its denunciation of the protests against the cartoons as
Islamist attacks on the rights of US working people -- no doubt make it
salable to the patriotic-minded who also may be moving to the left on
economic questions.
Firstly, you comment that the point of the Militant articles were to denouce
the protests against the racist cartoons. I am not sure if this is true. The
title of the article was
"Imperialist powers use reactionary demands on banning Danish cartoons to
attack rights, boost support for war"
The title was *not* ""Foreign people attack rights of Americans." etc...
The editorial was "Censorship hurts working class"
Th editorial was *not* "Stand up for our democractic way of life."
The titles are important because they, amongst other things, lay the main
emphasis on the what the article is saying.
I concluded (and i could be wrong) that the point was to simply explain how
the Ruling Class (I think the article said the US and British rulers) were
using it as a chance to further advance into democratic space that working
had won. It goes on to comment that working people have *no interest* in
calling for the censoring of the cartoons. (Which, sadly, some of the
protests did.)
Thus, i am not sure that the coverage has been focused on portraying the
Islamists as the ones who are 'attacking.'
thanks.
