[Marxism] Did Cannon have a "liquidationist" position on the Black question in the U.S.?

No. (that's the answer to the question in the subject line)
I'm glad Joaquín enjoyed the Cannon article I pointed him toward this weekend
when he first posed this question.
He reads too much into Cannon's counterposition of the CP's
"self-determination" slogan and their militant fight for equality in the
1930's. By "self-determination" I think Cannon IS, contrary to Joaquín's
statement, referring specifically to agitation around the Black Belt theory,
and not to the general right of self-determination.
Trotsky's discussions with the US comrades, which Joaquín correctly hails,
were first printed in the magazine Fourth International in 1948:

Why would an opponent of self-determination make sure that they were printed
-- without rebuttal -- in his organization's theoretical journal?

Finally on the question of support for self-determination, Solidarity, and
ideological lines crossing party lines: My first few years in Solidarity I was
engaged in repeated and heated debates on this question, and upheld the
self-determination line -- including, based on soundings made in NY's Black
political milieu, the possibility that we had not heard the last of the Black
Belt question. In this I was strongly opposed by those who held to the
Schachtmanite (and post-1933 CP) position of "Black and White, Unite and
Fight." I believe eventually some in groups like Solidarity and other centrist
formations who have a revolutionary position on self-determination will also
come to a revolutionary position on the question of the party itself and on
intervention in the class struggle -- at which point they'll have to look to
groups like Socialist Action.
