[Marxism] Joseph Weydemeyer; Engels supplied the North cannon through Weydemeyer ?

rrubinelliActually no, the March to the Sea is really post climactic-- the
real
turning point to the war occurs in Tennessee with the relief and rescue
of Rosencrans.

^^^^^
CB; Yes, actually Marx and Engels seem to agree that conquest of Tennessee
was a premise, but still gotta get Georgia

"Cast a glance at the geographical shape of the secessionists' territory,
with its long stretch of coast on the Atlantic Ocean and its long stretch of
coast on the Gulf of Mexico. So long as the Confederates held Kentucky and
Tennessee, the whole formed a great compact mass. The loss of both these
states drives an enormous wedge into their territory, separating the states
on the North Atlantic Ocean from the States on the Gulf of Mexico. The
direct route from Virginia and the two Carolinas to Texas, Louisiana,
Mississippi and even, in part, to Alabama leads through Tennessee, which is
now occupied by the Unionists. The sole route that, after the complete
conquest of Tennessee by the Union, connects the two sections of the slave
states goes through Georgia. This proves that Georgia is the key to the
secessionists' territory. With the loss of Georgia the Confederacy would be
cut into two sections, which would have lost all connection with one
another"

Actually, Marx pronounces in 1862 that the Union has won with some Maryland
campaign.

The short campaign in Maryland has decided the fate of the American Civil
War, however much the fortune of war may still vacillate between the
opposing parties for a shorter or longer time. As we have already stated in
this newspaper, the fight for the possession of the border slave states is a
fight for the domination over the Union, and the Confederacy has been
defeated in this fight, which it started under extremely favourable
circumstances that are not likely ever to occur again.

After winning in Tenneesee, it's still necessary to March to the Sea to
finish them off.

It was here too that the North proved its insurmountable
logistical superiority that would carry it to victory, by moving the
11th and 12th Corps of the Army of the Potomac by rail from Virginia to
Tennessee in 7 days. From this movement, and moment on, Grant and
Sherman change the context of the war from "Anaconda", blockade and
constriction, to that of a gigantic grinder, grinding through the land,
and bone and sinew of the South, with troops operating far in advance of
convential supply lines, as resupply by rail extended the area of
mobility and maneuver.

CB: Yea

If Sherman and Grant were "geniuses," it was the genius of logistic
management which became the hallmark of the US military-- the ability to
project, resupply, and sustain large forces of vast distances. Who else
by the US could have built Cam Ranh Bay back in the 60s?

Anyway, think the real genius was Stanton who knew a lot, and enough, to
keep the officer corps from interfering with McCallum, Scott, and
Hermann Haupt.

^^^^^
CB: No doubt.
