I was under the impression that Paul's letters were
usually regarded as the oldest New Testament text.
(Not all of the letters attributed to Paul are
considered to be "authentic", of course, but some
are.)
The general sequence, as I understand the majority
opinion to be is:
1. Paul's (authentic letters)
2. Gospel of Mark
3. Gospels of Luke and Matthew. (I think Acts of the
Apostles is attributed to the author of Luke as well).
4. Gospel of John.
4.5 Revelation. (This may be more or less contemporary
with John).
The other bits are from here and there.
It's typically assumed that there was about a
generation between each layer of texts.
Note that this implies that Christians existed before
there were any biographies suggesting that Jesus was
an actual historical figure.
There are *no* contemporary or eyewitness accounts of
(the Christian) Jesus ever having been an actual
living person. There were known to have been slightly
earlier Jewish preachers named Jesus, and a whole
bunch of Messiah and baptism cults. It's quite likely
that Christianity arose out of them, and that the
accounts of Jesus' life given in the Gospels are
totally, or almost totally, fictitious.
