He did have an illegitimate son. And Eleanor Marx became very friendly
to that half-brother after her father's death. See Yvonne Kapp, _Eleanor
Marx_, a great biography of a very remarkable and under-apprecaated
woman and socialist fighter. (The late Mark Jones suggested that this
work is actually also the best biography of Marx himself.)
