[Marxism] RR: Podcasting update & Venezuelan tour audio.

Podcast Update:

1) Podcatcher on a stick
2) Networking
3) Discussion group for RR and LOR.

1) Podcatcher on a Stick

Podcasting may seem an arcane phenomenon to a lot of people but the
key element is that you SUBSCRIBE to Mp3 audio which is downloaded
separate from the occasion at which you choose to listen to it. This
is a different experience from clicking on a Mp3 file and waiting for
it to download.

You don't need an Mp3 player or an expensive iPod to listen to a
podcast as it can be listened to at any computer with a soundcard
either through speakers or through earphones plugged into the back of
the computer.

However, Mp3 players greatly enhance the listening potential as you
are empowered with mobility -- enabling you to take your audio
wherever you want and listen to it anywhere/anytime. Because Mp3
players also function as USB storage devices this means that you can
also use them to transport large files from one computer to another in
the same way that you may use floppy disks --and USB devices have a
larger storage capacity than floppies.

So with some Mp3 players now selling at much lower prices -- under $AUD40
-- access to this technology is getting much more affordable.

To explore the podcast experience you can now employ "podcatcher on a
stick" technology which is a small free and open sourced podcatcher
program that is downloaded and operated from your Mp3 player(but not
iPod).

A 'podcatcher' is a download-manager for podcast-audiocontent. Or in
other words; a 'podcatcher' is a piece of software, that helps you to
receive podcasts automatically on the internet. 'Podcatcher on a
stick' has all the basic functions to receive podcasts like the other
podcatcher-software (e.g. Juice, Nimq,iTunes ...). But instead of
installing the software to a personal computer, 'podcatcher on a
stick' is installed directly on your audio-device (e.g. a MP3-USB-stick).

This means that with `podcatcher on a stick' you can plug your Mp3
player into ANY computer with web access to download the audio you
have subscribed to and the device does the rest automatically.

['Podcatcher on a stick' has proven very effective in educational
experiments as a means to distribute audio --such as recorded lectures
-- among university students in Germany without any major outlay on
their part required.]

2) Networking

The occasional swapping of audio bits and pieces among a few activist
podcasters is generating something of a partnership. Now you can hear
regular elements of Ratbag Radio as part of Upstart Radio

http://www.radio4all.net/index.php?op=producer-info&uid=1249&nav=&;

Whose regular weekly sound tour program -- Mindwalk , produced by
Shawn Lennon -- features satire, music and micellaneous soundgrabs.
(The last show worked over another interpretation of the British
video about the beating of Iraqi youth)

You can also catch elements on NimFM's Scan Dot Org program:

http://nimbinradiomedia.libsyn.com/

which Martin puts out as part of the NimFM feed. Scan Dot Org carries
satires and sound bytes that are very much to the political point
among the broad mix that makes up the NimFM podcast feed. (NimFM's
latest podcast is an interview with Carolus Wimmer(*see bio below) who is
touring
Australia from Venezuela. The wide ranging interview has been recorded by
Warrick
Fry and is in two parts. Access it from the NimFM website)

And over there in bonnie Scotland -- Robert -- exercises his ironic
POV to generate some mockery as the planet fails to live up to its
green and ecological credentials.

Meet Jesper Rasmussen -- the anti-globnalistaion fuck wit and
Environmental Man as he saves the world from yet another cretin. We
love this stuff. Great fun.

3) Discussion group for RR and LOR.

Since I find myself putting out so much of this background information
and people keep contacting Ratbag Radio with suggestions and
questions, a discussion list has been set up so that we can get
serious about chatting with one another. If you have suggestions or
questions or you want to follow up a thread either in regard to
Ratbag Radio or the Life of Riley Blog --or about podcasting -- make
your mark at the Ratbag Radio Discussion List where we'll archive all
the important bits s newcomers will know where to look.
