NIC offers presentation on Thomas Paine
North Idaho College will offer a presentation on the life of 18th century
radical Thomas Paine in celebration of his birthday Jan. 29. "An Evening
with Tom" will cover Paine's life in America, France and his native England
at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29 in Molstead Library's Todd Hall.

Two local historians will present in clothing of the period, portraying
Paine and his biographer during the presentation.

Early American historian Ken Burchell will portray Paine and regional
historian and NIC instructor Robert Singletary will present as Moncure
Conway, one of Paine's biographers. During the presentation, Conway will
introduce and interview Paine and the audience will be encouraged to
participate.

Burchell holds a master's degree in American history from the University of
Idaho and has done extensive research into the life of Thomas Paine. He is
president of the Thomas Paine Institute and served as a member, trustee and
officer of the Thomas Paine National Historical Association. He is
currently working toward a Ph.D. in early American history at the
University of Idaho.

Singletary is well known in the area for his work on local and regional

University of Idaho, Singletary took interest in early American history and
