Evo Rejects Subordination to US
Buenos Aires, Jan 17 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian President-elect Evo
Morales wants progress in US-Bolivia relations, but he says he will
not allow any initiative that means subordination or submission to
the United States.
Morales made those declarations in his news conference after his
four-hour visit Tuesday morning with Argentine President Nestor
Kirchner.
The leader of the MAS (Movement toward Socialism) party denied he had
received financial support from abroad and stressed that honesty is
his richest inheritance "from our ancestors".
Questioned by the press on the energy agreement with Argentina, Evo
asserted that after his inauguration on January 22, he asserted, his
government will work for strengthening this as, "we are interested in
increasing export volumes."
Bolivia has the second largest Latin American natural gas reserves
after Venezuela, and Buenos Aires is included among its main
recipients.
Morales said Kirchner advised him to go with his people in
decision-making and move the administration of the State forward.
"We will nationalize our national resources to industrialize gas and
oil in Bolivian territory", stressed the future chief of State.
He said that a Constituent Assembly is the only way to move forward
in a democratic revolution in his country, so he will boost that
initiative in Bolivia.
