[Marxism] George Galloway Redux
According to an October 25 article in the BBC, Norman Coleman,
Senator from Minnesota, was threatening new charges against RESPECT's
George Galloway. The senator boasted in a typical Mccarthyite fashion that
he had a "smoking gun", referring to the Volcker report, a commision headed
by a high official in the same US government which led the genocidal
sanctions and wars against Iraq, the second being called illegal by the SG
of the UN. It seems that Colemans's boast is just as full of shit as
Mccarthy's magically diminishing list.
It's the middle of January, and there hasn't been a peep about
Coleman's "smoking gun". A google news search of Galloway, Coleman, or a
combination finds not a single recent mention within the last three weeks
specifically about the renewed threats.
If Coleman really had this "smoking gun" of his, which he was
screaming about with such self-righteous indignation, wouldn't he have been
making some grandoise display of it, in Congress, or with legal action, or
some other venue? Yet, for the amount of huffing and puffing he did in
October, there has been almost no mention of of it recently. In addition
there was an AP article titled "No rush to examine oil-for-food documents"
from the which says that 15 people have been charged by the US, but George
Galloway was not named as one of them. If he was, every capitalist media
outlet in the country would be outdoing each other to denounce Galloway.
This hasn't occurred.
If there was substance to Coleman's claims, Galloway's enemies in the
Labor and Tory parties would most also certainly have eagerly pounced on
any of the slightest hint of embarassming information, either out of any
action investigating Galloway. Instead, it seems that the most that has
happened is the Government Chief Whip issuing a petition complaining about
Galloway's appearance on a reality tv show.
Greg Palast, who eagerly jumped on Coleman's "smoking gun" bandwagon,
also doesn't seem to be following up on the issue much either.
By the way, does anyone know what is behind Galloway appearing on a
reality tv show? I'd be curious to know.
