A 1938 article and commentary which, among other things, raises the
same point made earlier this week about the contradiction
under marketized medicine between lack of spending on preventive
care and overspending on later treatments and surgeries. More
generally, it explains clearly how socialized medicine is the
only rational insurance scheme on a society-wide basis, the only
logical way to spread risk and thus equalize care.
