RE: [Marxism] The latest round of debate on Evo...
I'm glad you DID make this list. Saved me some research time, and much
more importantly makes concrete the next question: how will such
demands be met? Fred raised similar concrete demands and the
need to organize around them as has been done in Venezuela.
So the question is how the various mass organizations, both
class and national (and in the class category some are more or
less indigenous, and vice versa) fight for the resources to
meet those demands: a) where do they seek the resources (i.e.
through revenues from nationalized hydrocarbons? through control
over the national budget, including telling the IMF to piss
off? etc.); b) what political structures do they use to be
successful in a) -- Constituent Assembly? the existing Parliament?
the revolutionary working people's assembly (sorry, I forgot
the exact name) that the COB and others had set up and could
have become the new power had not the elections intervened?
Obviously for quite some time (months, not years), the struggle
will flow through all the structures just named. The question
for revolutionaries is how the struggles in each of them can
be best used to rejuvenate and extend existing workplace and
neighborhood-based committees, so that struggles over the
demands in this list become fulcrums to seizing power and thus
being able to fully satisfy them.

RR: OK, let's go with that. Then what exactly is the Bolivian national
movement? What demands are expressed that distinguish it from the
classs demands that aim, not at economism, but at the appropriation of
ownership?
I probably shouldn't do this, but here's a few that I've heard Evo
mention or allude to in the past few days:
a) literacy
b) potable water
c) electrification
d) schools
e) doctors, including optometrists and dentists
f) the right to participate in sports
g) an end to the anti-indigenous "war on drugs"
h) cutting the president's salary to hire more teachers
i) the right to conduct official affairs in your own language
