Re: [Marxism] "iffy" again
Someone yesterday or today (I'm sorry I've forgotten who) asked what
kind of concrete solidarity with Venezuela we could engage in,
especially with regard to the CITGO offers. Some communities,
as I've reported to other lists, are beginning to ask if they
can be recipients of such offers as have been the Bronx and
elsewhere -- and in the case below there's the potential for
organizing a fight against the rejection by Chicago's ruling class
of an offer by Venezuela. In the course of such fights we can also
raise demands against ExxonMobil etc., especially should oil and/or
natural gas prices resume their spiral up.

Chicago Turns Down Discounted Venezuelan Oil
by Jessica Pupovac (bio)
As Chicago's poorest face an increase to already-high public transit fees, the
city is ignoring an offer of discounted diesel fuel to benefit low-income
people.
Chicago, Dec 28, 2005 - The Chicago Transit Authority is refusing an
opportunity to alleviate commuting costs for hundreds of thousands in the Windy
City's low-income neighborhoods. Instead of accepting deeply discounted fuel
from the Venezuela-owned Citgo Petroleum Corporation, the city is instead
raising fares to solve budget shortfalls.
