Re: [Marxism] NYFCO award ceremony

I see that there wasn't a vote for animated films. I'd recommend trying
anime and manga, if for no other reason other than the subject matter.
Japanese animated films are extremely free and permissive in terms of
expressing a very wide range of subject matter. Anime and manga are
designed for wide age, gender, political and social ranges. Castro has a
favorable character modeled after him in an episode of "Ghost in the
Shell". I believe it has to do partly with the fact that there isn't as
much of a strict censorship system, as there is the US (see the Japanese
version of Kill Bill). Also, I've been told by Japanese people I've known
that overall, Japanese people aren't too politically active, thus it seems
very much possible that someone could create an anime or manga about a
marxist guerilla, or urban proletariat activist, and it wouldn't be viewed
w/ too much alarm (this also would have to do w/ the fact that the Japanese
Communist party has about 400,000 members in a nat'n 1/2 the size of the
US, as well as the strong former Japanese Socialist party). In fact, from
what I know, the main reason the LDP's been in power for 40 years is from
the CIA funding their elections so heavily (1950s-70s).

The idea of the marxist (anti)hero is one I'd like to do if I get the
chance. As it is, there is an entire separate category of independently
produced manga, as well as it's counterpart in the US, western Europe, and
other places.
