[Marxism] Cindy Sheehan Visits The UK

Cindy Sheehan arrive in the UK for an international peace conference in
London on Saturday, December 10, where she will be appearing alongside a lineup 
of
writers, activists and campaigners from all over the world, including Iraq.

John Pilger, Tariq Ali, Tommy Sheridan, Ken Loach, Mark Thomas, Tony Benn,
and many more are scheduled to attend the conference, which is being organised
by Stop The War Coalition.

On Thursday, December 8, Cindy travelled to Scotland to reunite with Rose
Gentle, the Scottish mother of Gordon Gentle, killed in Iraq whilst serving with
the British Army. Rose and Cindy met in when Rose travelled to Washington DC
to speak at the mass demo there on September 24.

At a meeting inside the Scottish Parliament, Cindy spoke at length about her
campaign against the occupation and to hold Bush to account. She described the
war as 'an imperialist war fought to line the pockets of a few rich people
with the flesh and blood of people like her son.'

Her appearance in the UK has attracted a lot of media attention, with Cindy
appearing in all the national newspapers and on the major news networks.

At a time when Condi Rice's European tour has seen her meet with a barrage of
questions regarding CIA rendition flights, transporting terror suspects to
third countries for 'interrogation' and stopping off to refuel in European
countries without receiving prior permission, Cindy's visit has added more 
pressure
to an already under-pressure Tony Blair over the war.

Last week, Blair's lawyer was forced for the first time to appear in court at
the beginning of a legal action brought by Military Families Against The War
to bring him to account.

The focus of the antiwar movement, now we know that both the UK and US govts
have accepted that the occupation of Iraq is untenable, should be how to exact
the heaviest political and legal price possible from Bush, Blair and the
other neocon animals responsible for setting the world on fire.
