I heartily agree with Walter's recommendation. Even though the ending reflects
his liberal politics, the first 90% of the book is a detailed, well-told story
all with the aim of telling the reader, "Jesus H. Christ no wonder the Iranians
hate us! And they're right, we fucked them royally!"
The Grant-Woods folks have a multi-chapter history online:

I've only skimmed a couple chapters but it seems to have the basic facts any
party would put in such a history.
