[Marxism] Chavez sweeps Venezuelan elections

Parties allied to President Hugo Chavez say they have won all 167 seats in
the country's parliament, after elections boycotted by the opposition.

"None of the five main opposition parties took part, accusing the electoral
body of bias. Only about 25% of registered voters cast a ballot.

"The Fifth Republic Movement, Mr Chavez's party, won 114 seats in the 167
single-chamber National Assembly, according to senior party member, Willian
Lara. He said the remainder of seats had been won by allies of the
president."

Note that, as I write this, there is NOT ONE WORD about this election on
either the New York Times or Washington Post websites. They've slunk off
into the night along with the Venezuelan opposition, unable to face the
truth of the overwhelming support of the Venezuelan people for the Chavez
government.

Personally, I am HIGHLY skeptical of the 25% turnout figure. We'll see what
revisions tomorrow brings.
