[Marxism] United States Peace Institute, Boell Foundation, and the course of the Greens

Louis' post ("Amusing interview with neocon actor") refers to President
Bush's sending Ron Silver to a group called the United States Peace
Institute. I've recently had some occasion to find out some things
about the USPI, because one of the groups working with it on issues
having to do with the Balkans is the "Boell Foundation of North America"
You can get the program for an April 2005 conference on this by either
downloading the pdf file at

mandPics.pdf
...or you can go to the HTML version cached by google at

The Boell Foundation is a private dispenser of money to various worthy
causes, allegedly German Green in origins but interested as well in the
promotion of "democratic values" in the Balkans, as defined by the USIP,
a quasi-official Federally funded body with people like Condi Rice and
various generals on its board.

Simply put, I find its motives entirely suspect and it even makes me
wonder who's funding the Boell Foundation....

I'm particularly interested in the Boell Foundation because--under the
façade of being a German Green outfit--it has also been funding various
efforts within the Green Party of the United States to domesticate the
party...to keep it entirely in the hands of groups like the Progressive
Democrats of America, on which former Green presidential candidate,
David Cobb is a leading light.

If you know anything about the composition of these kinds of
conferences, you know that the participants usually have published, hold
a position somewhere, have a job of some sort, or at least have an
address and a phone number.

Now, the curious thing to me is that the Boell Foundation at that April
2005 conference on the Balkans in DC was represented by someone named
"Daria Nashart." If you google this name, you will find only one
reference to such a person...that she was a Boell Foundation
spokesperson at this conference.

Intriguing isn't it?

Perhaps some of you have recourse to some information that can throw
some light on this?

Solidarity!
Mark L.
