Re: [Marxism] The CWI may go where no one has gone before- overcoming sectarianism

This makes very interesting reading. The point though
is that if Socialist Alternative do manage to break
free of the sectarian straightjacket this will incur
the wrath of Peter Taafe & Co in London. The Scottish
members of the CWI also pursued the non sectarian path
in terms of building the broader based Scottish
Socialist Alliance which has now become the Scottish
Socialist Party. For this they were vilified
internally within the CWI from which they subsequently
split to form themselves as the Instrnational
Socialist Movement in Scotland. As far as Britain is
concerned the Socialist Party (the CWI flagship) has
long sank into sectarian irrelevance at a national
level even though they retain a political base in some
localities. A few years back they walked out of an
annual conference of the Socialist Alliance on the
grounds that had become bureaucratically dominated by
the SWP - conveniently overlooking the fact that they
themselves had bureaucratically dominated the Alliance
in its formative years!. They have also refused to
join Respect - coming up with any number of sectarian
excuses to justify their stance.
