[Marxism] Labor Party to seek South Carolina ballot status!

This step builds on years of base-building for the LP, as well as on
the struggles of workers in South Carolina, including especially the
ILA strike. Tens of thousands of signatures must be gathered in less
than two months, and funds are needed.
This is a chance to make history!

PARTY BUILDER
December 2005

IN THIS ISSUE:
Labor Party to Seek Ballot Access in South Carolina!
The Labor Party's Interim National Council has authorized formation of a South
Carolina Labor Party Organizing Committee as a first step toward entering the
electoral arena in that state. The initial objective is to attain certification
as a political party and thereby gain ballot access.

State election law, written as always by the two corporate parties, requires
presentation of petitions signed by 10,000 validated registered voters in the
state as the first hurdle toward certification. For the South Carolina Labor
Party to be eligible to field a candidate in the 2006 election, these petitions
must be filed no later than January 31, 2006.

The national Labor Party has committed to assist in the signature gathering
process. This is a taxing and costly endeavor, and an uphill struggle. And we
can only succeed with the commitment of all the Labor Party. However, the
exciting potential of establishing a serious and unabashed working class voice
in South Carolina politics justifies the effort.

See the December *Labor Party News* to find out more about the South Carolina
initiative and to learn what you can do to help.

ABOUT THE LABOR PARTY
The Labor Party is a national organization made up of international unions and
thousands of local unions - representing over two million workers - worker
supportive organizations and individual members. Founded in 1996 at a
convention of 1,400 delegates, the Labor Party exists to develop an independent
working-class politics. We believe that on important issues such as health
care, trade, and the rights to organize, bargain and strike, both the
Democratic and Republican Parties have failed working people. Visit our website
