RE: [Marxism] If Marxism is a science...
Tony Hartin wrote, "I'll take that as the end of rational discussion on
the matter."
I say social science isn't a science like astronomy. One of you
responds that it is because of this or that wonderfully predictive event
in the history of astronomy...and the other responds by repeated that
science is also a cultural enterprise.
It doesn't seem to me that any kind of rational discussion has even got
off the ground on this.
On January 1, 2050, the sun's coming up in the east and it's setting in
the west. None of the factors that might change this prediction are
likely to take place. Even if we're not here, that will happen as
surely...well, as surely as the sun will rise in the east and set in the
west.
You can't tell me with any comparable certainty about what the economy
is going to do in 2050, or what its even going to be like...just next
year. This is to say nothing about politics.
If you don't understand the difference--and simply assert there is no
difference--I don't where rationality enters into it.
Solidarity!
