When I wrote of the inability of any alleged social "science" to
establish "a detached experimental perspective," T.Hartin replied,
"thats the same problem with 'hard sciences' as well. The best you can
hope for is to put boundaries around what you cannot know, and to get
some sort of idea how it is that your own position may affect your
observations.. but this is a solvable problem surely.. or at least if
its unsolvable, then the difference between study of society and study
of the natural world is only one of degree."

My response: To say that the difference between chemistry and sociology
is "only one of degree" is pure sophistry. People are clinging to this
delusion with all the fervor of a televangelist at a cheerleaders'
convention.
