Re: [Marxism] British SWP co-thinkers (not)
I will leave others more knowledgeable than me to defend armed struggle
against the South African apartheid junta. I will just say that the SWP
argued consistently that the ANC was a 'middle-class' organisation isolated
from the working class, and also condemned the boycott of South African
goods as against the better interests of British and SA workers, who would
lose their jobs. In any case, if a socialist struggle is not waged by the
'trade-union movement' the SWP does not support it. Unless, perhaps, if
there is very little chance the non trade-union movement will seize state
power, and given that it is on the other side of the world, and not
Britain's doorstep.
PATRICK BOND WROTE:
This [opposition to Umkhonto We Sizwe's armed struggle] is a very
respectable left position, which I'd certainly defend (along with a variety
of others not associated with the SWP).
