And I'm also sure you'll find many who would prefer to go back to the former
GDR. This level of debate around the role of the Soviet Union and the Eastern
Bloc is very poor. Again, it speaks of those intent on applying a preconceived
analysis to historical events, which is non-Marxist, rather than draw an
analysis from those events. It is indisputable that the lives of the vast
majority
of citizens, workers, pensioners, children, of the former Soviet bloc are
substantially worse now, under Capitalism, than they were under the planned,
post
capitalist economy of before. And with regard to the change in social
relations, the development of the Soviet Union, of Cuba, of every nation
attempting
to build socialism was and is, and always will be, determined by the external
pressure brought to bear by capitalist encirclement.
