Of course it could have originated anywhere. (Perhaps not in Antartica
or Easter Island.) But that is irrelevant to the "Brenner Debate," which
is not what about _could_ have happened but what, _contingently_, did
happen.
It's this sort of tautologism that can poison the debate.
