[Marxism] Re: A sectarian approach
The CMR, which is one of the founding elements of this new organisation
of 20 people, is a simple satellite of the political tendency, which
originates in Britain, led by Ted Grant and Alan Woods (more the latter,
through age and illness, these days, than the former). These people
consider themselves ‘the Marxists’ (note the definite article). Their
position is that unless the Venezuelan revolution comes under their
leadership it will fail. By what process of divine revelation the truth
of Marxism was revealed to this particular segment of the British
Trotskyist intelligentsia before it was revealed to the masses of
Venezuela (or anywhere else for that matter) is not clear. Nevertheless,
that is how it is: unless the Venezuelan workers and peasants see the
true light of Marxist wisdom to which this current has somehow been
granted a monopoly they are doomed.
It should not be irrelevant here to point out, though it should be no
more than grist to the mill, that when it comes to actual political
struggle, especially anti-imperialist struggle (rather than
revolutionary phrasemongering, that is), this is a political current
whose record is not exactly untarnished. This is, of course, a group,
who, in 1982, in Britain, refused to demand the withdrawal of British
forces from the Malvinas, and which has consistently failed to oppose
itself to British occupation of the six counties of the north of Ireland.
Perhaps the only thing that surprises here is how anyone could possibly
think that the fact of this British-centric group of shameless
imperialist handraisers setting up shop as the indispensable political
link in the leadership of the revolution in Venezuela could be anything
*other* than sectarian.
