[Marxism] stupid evo psychology article in Times

In the magazine:

an article touting "Literary Darwinism," an application of socio-
biology/evolutionary psychology to literature. Contains such
groaners as this:

"All the same, today we speak casually of innate preferences, adaptive 
behavior and fitness strategies. Consider how evolutionary psychology has
displaced Freud. Who, upon discovering that a remote tribe had an incest 
taboo, would ascribe it to unconscious repression on the part of the sons
of their sexual attraction to their mothers? Instead, we would likely 
cite an evolutionary biology principle that states that we have evolved 
an innate repulsion to inbreeding because it creates birth defects and 
birth defects are a barrier to survival."

Yeah, and trendy journalists write articles like this because they're
genetically programmed to be insipid to decrease their survival
chances. Hey, wait a minute -- maybe this stuff ain't so bad after
all!
