[Marxism] discussions in Cuba
On NPR yesterday they had a piece on arguments about baseball in Cuba (listen
at http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4991245
unfortunately no transcript)
The reporter describes how groups of people get together in parks
to argue -- and no matter how heated it gets they slap each other
on the back at the end (and then start a new argument). She said
in passing that this is part of a more widespread phenomenon in
which people gather to talk about many things -- books, movies,
whatever (she used a Spanish word to refer to the phenomenon but
I didn't catch it).
Sounds like a pretty damned cultured working class!
P.S. Earlier in the segment they had a predictably pathetic piece
about land seizures in Venezuela from the owners' point of view.
