I understand what you say (and in a way it feels like a compliment) but
it remains the case that one of the great weaknesses of both Scottish
and Welsh nationalism is that they underestimate the degree to which
modern-day Wales and Scotland are creations of imperial Britain. We (the
Welsh and the Scottish) were never colonised by the English empire; we
gaily partook (for all the negative consequences that that has
subsequently entailed) the booty of the British one.

Ireland is, of course, another matter.
