[Marxism] Re: Role of CPUSA in US Civil Rights Struggle

It's true that there was an SP presence in the civil rights movement, as well
as CP. But the SP as a political center was more of an observer than a player,
not having cadres to deploy. Whatever role the CP played as a political center
had to be strictly hush-hush, to avoid redbaiting - this was understood by the
movement and the CP. No claiming credit for victories. The country was still in
the throes of the red scare.

Bogdan Denitch was in the Independent [not International] Socialist League,
Shachtman's arch-anti-Stalinist remnant in the 50s. Denitch was never attached
to the later left split from the ISL, the Independent Socialist Clubs which
became the International Socialists which begat Solidarity and ISO.
