Below is a response to Ted I sent upon receiving his crap on the
UFPJ-News list. Snotty in tone, but he's earned it with his
repeated attempts to co-opt the left for the Democratic Party, and
now for Zionism. And he especially earned it with his arrogant
erasure of the rights of millions of Palestinians.

Why does Ted get to decide that only some of those ethnically cleansed 
from Palestine be allowed to return? Why does Ted get to decide that 
the years that have passed since 1948 are enough to have made an 
inherently apartheid state an unerasable fact?

What's particularly disappointing about Ted arrogating to himself this 
right is that events of the last decade have made the impossibility of 
the "two-state" solution more and more manifest, and made more 
realistic the only solution that was ever viable: one secular state 
for Jews, Arabs and others.

(See the interview with Brent Scowcroft in the current New Yorker 
where he makes clear -- in contrast to the naive Condee Rice -- that 
Sharon's "pullout" from Gaza is just another nail in the coffin of the 
stillborn "peace process.)

If Israel can take billions every year for bombs and planes and 
machine-guns to murder in cold blood, why can't those same billions be 
used to build enough housing inside pre-1967 Israel so that EVERY 
refugee can return to the homes to which they still have a key?

The only reason is that the Republican and Democratic parties and the 
ruling class they represent don't want it.
