YES!!!! Absolutely the point about both the American Revolution AND
"the Second American Revolution."
Insofar as we had a ruling class in 1860, it made its money from cotton
agribusiness. Merchants in the great eastern seaboard cities like NYC
(Phil Foner's original dissertation) were in business with--and allies
of--these interests). Republican Revolution came from "the middling
sort" with support from the laboring classes, free and chattel.
