[Marxism] Re: Rural India Goes Digital

Louis, You are right. It is disgusting to see this
kind of doctored misinformation put out in the Western
media by MNC boot-lickers.
Mr. Thakor, the Lodra farmer from Gujarat (name
changed to keep identity secret?) perhaps happens to
be a rich farmer with a supposed annual income of
60,000 Rupees (about 1500 US $- all tax free), who
need not watch a community TV in the village square,
but can easily own a color TV. A vast majority of
Indians still earn equivalent of less than 1 US $a
day. Such families are considered fortunate to afford
2 meals a day. The annual income of a vast majority of
land-less agricultural workers will not exceed 100
US$.
Possibly Mr By John Larkin, the author of the report
is being fed a tempting story about the pot of gold at
the end of the rainbow (a huge market waiting eagerly
to be tapped). What I clearly understand after nearly
30 years of participation in leftist struggles is that
the media revolution had definitely made the masses
more informed and aware. That is perhaps one reason
why the Left in India is at the center of the
political scene.
