I'm inclined to agree. But anyway, my point in replying is to ask about how much of China's economy is still socialized. Anyone have the statistics?

Hart-Landsberg’s and Burkett’s “China and Socialism: Market Reform and Class Struggle” provides statistics. According to the “China Statistical Yearbook 2002,” here is employment in state enterprises and urban collectives in 2001.

Manufacturing, state enterprise share – 14.8 %
Domestic trade (wholesale & retail trade and eating and drinking places), state enterprise share – 9.4 %
Manufacturing, urban collective share – 5.3 %
Domestic trade, urban collective share – 4.6 %

Among urban residents, 31.9 % are employed in state enterprises, and 5.4 % are employed in urban collectives.

In rural areas in 2001, 26.7 % are employed in Township and Village Enterprises. 17.9 % of the nation is employed in TVE. These are described as “private operations in disguise.” The agricultural economy has been de facto completely privatized since 1983.

Foreign funded enterprises account for a 50.8 % share of exports and 50.1 % share of total trade.

According to the UN’s World Investment Report, foreign affiliates account for 31.3 % of total manufacturing sales in China.

There’s a recent article that mentions Hart-Landsberg’s and Burkett’s book here: http://bulatlat.com/news/5-34/5-34-mao.htm
