Hemingway was wrong. The rich are different in that they can _know_ the
facts and shrug them off with something like, "If they can stand it, we
can." That is the attitude which creates the sour notes Lou notes in
Hammond's memoir. I can't remember the episode too clearly now, it's
been a long time since I reread Huck Finn, but I think that after the
King & the Duke <?> are tarred & feathered, Huck remarks something like,
"I guess if they could stand it, I could."
