[Marxism] Fisk in Melbourne

Robert Fisk gave a lecture at the University of Melbourne this evening. Quick 
impressions
below.

Fisk is approximately 60 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, physically fit, 
mentally alert, low body fat, very wiry forearms, wears two kinds of spectacles 
- one to read, one to see the audience. Walks with an easy gait and lots of 
energy. No jewellery, no visible tattoos, no facial hair, very tanned 
(sunburnt, even), receding hairline, hair is almost completely white nowadays. 
No mental decline. Medium build. Light blue-and-white checked shirt. Moleskins, 
brown leather belt, high quality walking shoes. Was happy to sit on the steps 
(all chairs were taken) while Peter Manning introduced him. 

Manning came across well. Said he was a mate of Fisk?s, gave a brief intro and 
then Fisk had the floor. He read from notes, and it?s a safe bet they?re pretty 
much identical to parts of his book ?The Great War for Civilisation?. The book 
looks like a whopper. Not just in terms of quality journalism, but size and 
weight as well. 

Q&A was informative. Fisk made it clear when he was speaking as an eyewitness, 
when he was giving his opinion, and when he didn?t want to waste time (various 
people had axes to grind - he gave them as much time as anyone else, but made 
sure others had a go). He showed good endurance in remaining alert and 
interested in the Q&A despite having only a few hours sleep last night and 
doing interviews all day today. 

He is the real thing.
