Yeah, non response isn't always the best idea. I am all for baseball bats in
practice, but whoever heard of a verbal baseball bat? You can swing for
hours on the internet without hitting your opponent.

As for truth outing- I was referring to arguments on mailing lists such as
this. Usually the silly ones are easily identified, in general. On a wider
social level, however, I too am pessimistic. Conservatism is a virus
affecting all but a handful of white people.

While "turn the other cheek" is an admirable goal, I'm a firm believer that
the exclusive use of a tactic of non-response is a bad idea.  Sometimes a
response is required.

when faced with an outraged person who is intent on wanting to
fight, sometimes (not always), an ultra-polite response will just confuse
and
mellow the aggressor.  (And other times a whack with a baseball bat may be
needed. :-)

  While I'd like to think that -- and indeed, in many cases it does --

the present US administration, I have serious doubts.
