Interesting. What do you call a message where someone turns a person's
handle into a childish attempt at name-calling, and then trots out what seems
to be an allegation of racism into a discussion on economics and oil? Seems
like a personal attack to me.
It's clear that the price of oil/gasoline is going to go up. Now the
question becomes: whose pocket does the profits from that oil/gas go into?
Right now, it's going into the oil companies. My suggestion would be to
ensure that the price of oil goes up with taxes on carbon designed to promote
the use of other energies -- and to redirect those profits into the
government's hands. From there, those profits would logically be used for
the public's good, such as creating mass transit systems and/or subsidizing
alternative energies.
The German Green/SPD alliance created such subsidies and they now produce
more solar electricity than does the US, and they are the world's
technological leader in wind power generation. Is that "All power to the
Soviets"? Obviously not -- but it's surely a drastic improvement over the
current state of things in the US.
I ass/u/me your race and illegal alien remark is supposed to mean that poor
people will be hit hard by an increase in fuel prices. Yes, that's true.
They are being hit hard now -- both white/black and legal/illegal -- and they
will be in the future. But dealing with poverty and the racist aspects of US
poverty is beyond the scope of this discussion's topic.
Any other "clever" slams or names that you've thought up?
