[Marxism] Farmed salmon hit some snags in Maine
Actually there is a native Atlantic salmon and it is endangered by the
farm-raised variety. Aside from toxins and pollution, the Maine product
faces competition from Chile. And after that from South Asia? Who
knows?
This is a good case study to explain globalization to American workers.
You commit yourself, your ecology, etc., to the promise of new jobs and
you lose it all. It is the same as farmers in Latin America who destroy
their native economy by listening to the siren songs of mono-cultural
capitalists and then lose out again when new fields and new desperate
people become available.
