[Marxism] The vocabulary of our young ones

So I gave a quiz on the Communist Manifesto and some of my students
complained that they did not know what "appropriate" and "subjugation"
meant and therefore they could not answer a question that came straight
from the text, namely "Communism deprives no man of the power to
appropriate the products of society; all that it does is to deprive him
of the power to subjugate the labour of others by means of such
appropriation." Okay, so those are hard words (I guess), but then they
had the text in front of them and didn't bother looking them up. That
is what bothers me. It's bad enough that they have not been taught the
meanings of these words, but it is inexcusable that they have not be
taught to look up words they don't recognized. Chomsky once said
something to the effect of "Education is a system of imposed ignorance."
Ain't it the truth? Andrew
