[Marxism] Fw: Collins?

If anyone knows the answer to any of the questions I posed below let's hear it.
Thanks.

Dear Sister Dunbar-Ortiz,
I was looking on the Web for more information on the migrant workers' camp
described by Steinbeck and of course found references to Weedpatch and its
director, Tom Collins. Then I found your reference to Collins (in your great
essay which I'd already read in Monthly Review) as an organizer for the Cannery
Workers. Is this the same person?

Here's why I ask: I've been passing on to friends and comrades whatever info I
can find on what progressives are doing to support the people of the Gulf zone,
not just with money or goods but in person and politically. Obviously very soon
the refugees from Lousiana and Mississippi are going to have to organize
themselves for what they need, how and when they need it. That thought led to
remembering Steinbeck's description. The moral of the story is that the camps
-- and how lefties may have helped get them started -- is an important lesson
for today about people organizing in the face of employer and government apathy
at worst and hostility at best.

Not that people are going to wait for historical examples to organize
themselves. But a little inspiration from the past never hurts.

Thanks.
In solidarity,
Andrew Pollack
