Re: [Marxism] re: New Orleans: "It's the system." - are we missing an
First, I agree on the award should we ever start giving them.
And then Fred and Junaid can share the second one. :)
Second, although I share Junaid's frustration at our disorganization,
things are not quite that bleak.
At http://groups.yahoo.com/group/swp_usa/messages as well as in
posts to NYTransfer you'll see a number of posts under my name
on what unions, Black and antiwar groups and others are doing not
just to raise money but to actually get their butts down to N.O.
to do something. In each post I encourage readers to take these
opportunities to build support networks for those doing so and
to get their own union, community group, etc. to think about doing
the same.
We're at a point now where the best in each of these groups should
begin talking to each other about a coordinated left approach. And
part of that approach has to be something else I raised in each
post: let the working people of the Gulf Region decide for themselves
how much money they need and what it gets spent on. This dovetails
with Fred's point about why people are being shipped out of New
Orleans -- it is precisely to serve the dual purpose of disorganizing
them and to allow the gentrification and racial cleansing of a New New
Orleans.
Obviously at the heart of many of the groups I've mentioned are
hard-core commies like us, and we can be talking to each other about
this work and about what demands need to be raised.

If we ever start giving out "Marxmailer of the month" awards around

commentary and analysis.
Imagine our impact if, for instance, we could organize cadres of 10,000
socialists to NO. What a tremendous show of solidarity, what a great
magnifier of our message that would be! Imagine if we had control of
even a sliver of the airwaves, the press, the unions, the organized
communities, around the country. We could initiate a mass campaign
linking the war in Iraq with the war in New Orleans.
