In response to Les's query, Lourdes Muñoz Santamaria is a she, not a he,
and she did not make the "genocide" statement. Her husband did.

As reported by the Antena 3 TV web site: "'Es como un genocidio, un
moderno tipo de genocidio, mantener a 10.000 personas en este lugar,
peor que perros' aseguraba antes de marcharse Jordi, el marido de la
diputada catalana."

"'It is like a genocide, a modern type of genocide, to keep 10,000
people in this place, worse than dogs,' Jordi, the husband of the
Catalan deputy said before leaving."

There have been a ton of news reports in the Spanish-language press
world-wide based on reports from the deputy, because apparently she had
a working cell phone or access to a working land line.

The Spanish embassy sent its own search and rescue mission, which flew
into Houston and planned to travel overland to New Orleans, to get them
out. But when this mission was publicized in Spain, Condoleeza Rice
intervened to get the national guard to take the deputy, her family and
another Spanish family to the  airport and from there they were trucked
to Houston, where they are planning to take the first plane back to the
civilized world.

I'm glad the people from the Spanish State are getting out, but it
should be noted that not even a catastrophe of this scale has succeeded
in breaking Secretary of State Rice from putting white people first.
