Subject: [TheNNOC] CUBA REITERATES HIS OFFER OF SENDING MEDICAL CARE
We have received calls and the following directly from Cuba, who want
to assist their sister cities in New Orleans, Mobile, among others.
The U.S. Government is not reporting this opportunity: the Cubans
have been ready and able since Tuesday. They can arrive within hours,
at NO EXPENSE to the U.S.! They are close, awaiting for permission to
enter, and trained to working such international rescue situations,
and are ready to treat all the people they encounter for exposure and
trauma. By refusing the Cubans offer, the Bush administration is
deliberately sacrificing the lives of U.S. citizens!
PLEASE CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND DEMAND THE CUBAN EMERGENCY
RESPONSE MEDICAL TEAMS BE ALLOWED INTO NEW ORLEANS! LIVES ARE AT
STAKE. THIS IS TIME TO PUT POLITICS ASIDE AND SAVE LIVES. EVERY
MINUTE COUNTS. CUBA IS READY! CUBA IS WAITING! LIVES ARE IN THE
BALANCE!

Fidel Castro Offers 1,100 Cuban Phyisicians to the United States
In a presentation in the program Mesa Redonda President Fidel Castro
has revealed that Cuba offered to the United States' Department of
State on August 30, no less than 1,100 doctors to assist with the
health crisis in the Gulf coast. Fidel Castro disclosed that Cuba
will cover the costs of the physicians airfare to Houston. The
doctors will carry their own medicine, food and some water.
No answer has been given to Cuba by the United States government.
Condoleezza Rice, however, has stated that all assistance that was
offered by foreign countries would be accepted. However, the State
Department ahs not acknowledged that the Cuban government offered
such assistance just one hour after hurricane Katrina entered the
city of New Orleans. Fidel Castro says that "Cuba does not want to
attack an adversary and certainly not at this time at this time. "
He stressed that the President of the United States confronts many
difficulties and Cuba in a constructive spirit wants to cooperate.
Fidel Castro provided his Cuban listeners with a detailed report of
the events from August 29th to the present. The Cuban president went
on to add that this was not the first time that Cuba makes such an
offer. "We are not asking for anything in return from the United
States." Maybe water, he said, is the only thing that the physicians
will need.

PRESIDENT FIDEL CASTRO REITERATES MEDICAL CARE OFFER
TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE IN HIS REMARKS DURING THE TV ROUND TABLE.
Our country is ready to send, in the small hours of morning, 100
clinicians and specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine, who at
dawn tomorrow, Saturday, could be in Houston International Airport,
Texas, the closest to the region struck by the tragedy, in order to
be transferred by air, sea or river to the isolated shelters,
facilities and neighborhoods in the city of New Orleans, where the
population and families are that require emergency medical care or
first aid.
These Cuban personnel would be carrying backpacks with 24 kilograms
of medications, known to be essential in such situations to save
lives, as well as basic diagnosis kits. They would be prepared to
work alone or in groups of two or more, depending on the
circumstances, for as long as necessary.
Likewise, Cuba is ready to send via Houston, or any other airport of
your choosing, 500 additional specialists in Comprehensive General
Medicine, with the same equipment, who could be at their destination
point at noon or in the afternoon of tomorrow, Saturday, September 3.
A third group of 500 specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine
could be arriving in the morning of Sunday, September 4. Thus, the
1100 said medical doctors, with the resources described tantamount to
26.4 tons of medications and diagnosis kits, would be caring for the
neediest persons in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.
These medical doctors have the necessary international experience and
elementary knowledge of the English language that would allow them to
communicate with the patients.
We stand ready waiting for the US authorities' response.
