[Marxism] Two Americas

The shocking events currently unfolding in New Orleans have illustrated once
and for all the extent of the class and colour divide that exists in the so
called land of the free. I can think of no other nation in the world - and
certainly no industrialised nation - where such a blatant disregard for the
welfare of an entire segment of the population would be countenanced. The heart
of America is rotten with both racial and economic apartheid. The editorials
in all the main British newspapers, not far behind US newspapers in terms of
their reactionary leanings, have reflected the shock, disgust and horror at
the human catastrophe and plight of so many. The only crime these people have
committed is to be black and poor in the richest nation on earth. Such a
barbaric and savage ruling class it would be hard to find in all human history.

Can there be any argument now over the fact that unless this ruling class is
overthrown the future of the entire planet will only grow ever more
perilous? Some may think this an exaggeration. I don't think it is.

It seems the US Government is in a deep crisis, struggling to keep a lid on
a society about to explode at the seams with insurmountable contradictions.

How long and how much will it take before things really explode and an
eruption takes place?

It seems the US could be entering a revolutionary period - stretched
overseas in a war they're losing, an economy that's overheating, with rising
fuel
prices and massive consumer and national debt; and now a natural disaster
that's given rise to the deep schism that exists between rich and poor.

I'd be interested to hear other thoughts on this.

Best
J
