[Marxism] Re: Chavez warns of global energy disaster if US invades

Lueko Willms writes:
"Under current conditions at the US gulf coast, the political
support for such a criminam invasion would be quite dim, I suppose,
and it would look even more like a robbery to make up for the lost oil
producing capacities in the US south."

Well, first, I don't like when Chavez does this about a positive US defeat...The
Venezuelan Army isn't anything like the Iraqi one and we know what happened with
that. Of course that's the 'invasion' part, occupation, well, see Iraq
again...perhaps that is what Chavez is talking about...there is nothing really
stopping the US from *invading* Venezuela from a strickly military point of
view.

In fact, most of CITGO's oil goes through the Gulf Coast, and they are hurt as
bad as all the oil companies so the "lost oil" is partly from the off-shore
rigs but it's also imported oil from Nigeria and Venezuela...so trying to take
Venezuelan oil wouldn't serve any purpose...there is no way to refine more of
it and not way to import any of it right now.

I do believe that the US gov't has two major political/military/financial
problems right now that preclude serious invasion talk: Iraq and Louisiana/Gulf
Coast recovery.
